Liscio Got Me Hardcore – Graphics and Aesthetics of Italy’s Last Folk Scene (2021) was a small publication originally conceived by Ragazzi di Strada to cast a light on Liscio, the traditional dance music of Emilia-Romagna. The purpose was to re-read it from a post-subcultural perspective, starting from a study on the graphics and aesthetics of Liscio’s music sheet booklet issued by independent music publishers between the 1970s and 1980s. The final scope of the fanzine was to reestablish Liscio as a forgotten subculture of Italian music and social history.
Three years and further research and studies on, in 2023, on the occasion of the exhibition Liscio Got Me Hardcore (Galera San Soda, Milano), the publication was revisited and expanded with the release of a 400-page catalogue, bringing together written essays and rare and unpublished graphic and photographic archive documents, of which you can see some excerpts below.
